Wide-eyed I wait –
Sit for moments, maybe hours on a step at the gate
Hungry like the gasping breath at water’s break
Heavy as the yearning heart that aches;
I wait.

Quietly He calls –
Hush the rushing sound of many thousand waterfalls
Gentle as a whispered voice in lonely cave
Certain as the sun at birth of day;
He calls.

Bitterly I weep –
Sink into an emptiness of vague and endless deep
Helpless flail of broken bone and wordless cry
Empty heart pours out to emptier sigh;
I weep.

Readily He rains –
Flood of pouring love song thunders through the windswept plains
Stormy presence drowns out everything within
Sweetest touch of water kissing skin;
He rains.
